The Classic Game Boy was a magical thing to me. My first handheld like many other kids of the 80’s. I loved it, played it all the time. It was a challenge though in low or no light situations. If only we had today’s options then! In this video I check out a new easy to install kit for the Game Boy DMG that gives us a new IPS LCD full sized screen. Id rate this as a beginner to novice level mod.

how's battery life with the mod?
Please tell me what game that is at 1:52
Are IPS screens screen-burn proof? TIA
I`m sorry but I`m old style! I want to see the big pixel!
This is for the same person that use an lcd tv for playing on snes!
The mod is cool but for me it's changing too much of the gameboy for example I really do not know why they have added the colour contrast options, for a person that wants to keep the gameboy as original as possible but make slight improvements this is a no go for me and its a shame I would of purchased it if the colour contrast options were not there and it was left just black and white, the screen being to big to the point that you have to clip plastic off in the gameboy this is also a no go for me why they couldn't make a screen that is small enough to fit in perfect is beyond me it seems silly. A mod to me is something that improves but doesn't create a problem which involves you making room for the mod, if you have to heavily alter things then it's technically a new machine and no longer is a clever modification, people want a mod but they don't want to know its there and unfortunately for this we do know its there sadly.
Anything for the pocket like this?
Got the screen elsewhere, but thanks for the heads up on console5's bracket. That thing is mandatory, imo.
For anyone else in the same boat, YES, you'll need to remove any previously installed bivert chip… My soldering skills are passable, but my de-soldering is a nightmare. I did it, so can you.
I’ve installed this exact mod and it’s great, but I have to push ‘up’ on the d-pad really hard when playing games unless I loosen the screw behind the d-pad inside the battery compartment. Has this happened to anyone else or is mine faulty?
I noticed the brackets texture really stands out around the viewable area. Do you notice it much while you're playing?
This past Xmas I dug out my old Gameboy that I used to carry around daily in the early 90's. I need to find someone to restore it.
i like it want to modd my gameboys to bad they are out of stock and the parts must come from china i believe and they not delivering to the US any time soon
Gonna get one of those. It is also a great option for people who destroyed their screen when trying to install a Backlight
I REALLY wanna try this. I saw it the other day and I can't get over how crisp the image looks.
That bracket gives it a pretty ugly border, tbh.
cool video tech talk madlittle pixel
Dang makes me want to get another original gameboy again.
Wow! This mod looks bad ass! Great video!
I have the GBC Freckleshack. I'll probably get the Analogue Pocket. Do I need this? Um… maybe?
Awesome video Ron!
just a shame you lose the 'grid' screen effect that the original GB screen has
Video of you doing this mod please!
Incredible. I want to time travel back to first grade and give it to myself.
Sold out 🙁 I can never find these mods everytime I try to get one sold out..
That's pretty awesome. What I'd love to see is a Game Boy Color with a backlit screen inside a DMG case.
I love this. I thought the invert mod was good but this is awesome
This looks stunning and is on my to-buy list for sure!
Thanks Ron for yet another amazing vid!
You might want to check your website, I have reviewed the RetroMini, and it blows the original Game Boy out of the water. I don't have to buy AA batteries, and my cartridges can stay in storage. Thanks for the video, but I've upgraded.
Great, now I want one! lol.
Anyone know if this mod would be negatively impacted by an already-installed bivert chip? Would I need to remove it?
UPDATE: Yes, you definitely need to remove the bivert chip if you have one. All your "colors" will be inverted otherwise.
Maybe one day we will get a PSP ips screen I long for one of those
Very cool, maybe your next vid can be the step by step for applying the mod?
If my original GB looked like that, I would have never got rid of it, back in the day!
The ultimate dmg upgrade i would say. I play them just on my SP. Works for me. Maybe ill buy a ips v2 kit for my SP. And play them on that system
This new IPS screen looks absolutely stunning. Shame about the greys in the palette being swapped. I know it's a relatively simple fix but no way am I cutting a trace on the original DMG board just for this. I'll wait for future revisions.
